Population of Oppressed, Exploited, Addicted, and Abused
Pray for Caring for Vulnerable Women in San José, Costa Rica — Day 1
About
Costa Rica is known as a tourist destination for its many beaches, volcanoes and diverse wildlife. Unfortunately, this opens the door for a booming market of sexual tourism and human trafficking because there are no laws against prostitution, except for prostitution of minors. For this reason, prostitution is rampant throughout the country as a cultural norm and a highly protected commerce.
In the center of the capital city San José, there is a high concentration of women, men, and transgender people in situations of prostitution selling their bodies for as low as $4. These areas are known as the “Red Light District” and the “Red Zone”.
The Red Zone (where Casa Esperanza is located) is rife with addictions to drugs and alcohol, homelessness, extreme poverty, and prostitution.
Prayer Points for Today:
For the Victims of Exploitation
Pray for freedom from oppression, sexual and labor exploitation, and addiction.
Pray for their willingness to engage with the healing process and to seek out the resources that are available to them.
For the Families
Pray for freedom from generational cycles of poverty, abuse, and addiction.
