Fundraising for your Journey
Fundraising often gets a bad reputation - it’s uncomfortable, it requires you stepping outside of your comfort zone, and it’s vulnerable. But just as you are saying yes to God by choosing to go, fundraising provides your network of supporters with the opportunity to say yes to God by choosing to give. We are all called to be a part of the Great Commission - either by sending or going.
This training section will equip you to raise financial support with confidence, gain an understanding of why fundraising is not only a necessary, but good, model, and process through what expectations and emotions you are bringing into this journey. It will also provide you with some practical resources and structure to set you up for success.
In this section you will:
- Gain a new perspective on the importance and spiritual implications of fundraising
- Learn to build an effective team of financial and prayer supporters
- Develop important skills for networking, maintaining + managing relationships, and communication

A Spirituality of Fundraising
This book is a reflection on the spiritual nature of fundraising and the importance of cultivating a loving relationship between donors and those seeking support. Nouwen emphasizes the idea that fundraising is not just about raising money, but rather about inviting people to participate in a shared vision and to experience the joy of giving. Read the excerpt provided here and contemplate the following questions.
How can fundraisers balance the need to raise funds with their own spiritual and ethical values? In what ways can fundraising become a spiritually meaningful practice, rather than a transactional one?
Note: Consider reading the book in full (linked below) if you find it’s a helpful resource in shifting your perspective about raising support and want to go deeper.
