Neurodivergent Young Adults

Pray for Mobilizing Inclusive Communities in Vietnam — Day 1

Introduction

Prayer is a powerful way to be a part of Jesus' work around the world. Our work in Vietnam is among the marginalized and the least reached--individuals and families experiencing disabilities!

Thank you for joining us in prayer for the next 7 days as we bring people together to build, model, and mobilize a movement of inclusive workplaces and accessible communities in Vietnam. Together, we can see people of all abilities follow Jesus and transform their city.

Neurodivergent Young Adults

Nam* is a young man with autism. After turning 18, he and his parents didn’t really know what the future would look like for him as a neurodivergent adult. There are some resources available for children and youth in our community. However, neurodivergent young adults do not have many options for further education or employment. And (just as in many other communities) neurodivergent people in our community often face social stigmas, discrimination, exclusion, exploitation, and other forms of abuse.  As a result, they often become hidden members of our community as adults.

Thankfully, Nam’s story was different. Through our program, he was able to find friends and learn important skills needed to find a job. He now works for a large international hotel where he is helping to challenge the stereotypes about neurodivergent people in our community.

Prayer Points for Today:

For Neurodivergent Young Adults

  • Pray for greater access to education and other services that can help neurodivergent young people to transition well into adulthood.

  • Pray for workplaces in our community to become more inclusive toward neurodivergent people.

For Families

  • Pray that parents and caregivers have better resources to help their neurodivergent children transition into adulthood.

For Churches

  • Pray that churches would see and welcome neurodivergent people and their families to develop a biblical theology of disability.
