Monthly Devo - Signs of New Life
Around One Collective one of the sayings you may hear is, “we are Jesus people” or “we are on a Jesus Journey”. We say this because we look to Jesus as our Savior, and our Lord, but not just that, Jesus is also our model. He showed us perfectly how to bear the image of God and how to love God and others perfectly. He showed us that the Jesus journey is one that will also come with suffering and laying down our lives for the sake of others.
Throughout the Easter season, we remember Christ’s suffering, his bearing of the sin of the world, his death, his resurrection, his victory over the powers and principalities, and his victory over sin and death. This year though, I have been especially thinking about Jesus after his resurrection.
When Jesus resurrected, he inaugurated the new creation. As NT Wright says “New creation has begun in Jesus and we see it in his resurrected body and in his resurrection glory”. Revelation then gives us a fuller picture of the New Creation that has begun in Jesus.
Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”[a] for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’[b] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Revelation 21:1-4
Your partnership is having an eternal impact. Together, all over the world, with Jesus in the lead we are creating little outpost of the kingdom of God, signs of the new creation, where everyone has access to food, freedom, and forgiveness.
As we look to Jesus as our model, let’s fix our eyes on the resurrected Jesus who has inaugurated the new creation.
