Beto’s Coffee Co.
Don Beto Flores is the namesake of both our coffee shop and our artisan product initiative. Beto is the father of one of the first baristas to have worked for the cafe and it didn’t take long for us to realize not only how gifted he was as an artisan shoe cobbler, but also how passionate he was about leading others to faith throughout the country.
Beto considers himself to be a missionary to his own people first and foremost, but for decades has dedicated his profession to working with his hands as a way to provide for his family and ministry. His leadership in the community and his talent behind a needle and thread led us to launch an artisan initiative in his honor, which eventually resulted in the rebranding of our entire coffee business after him.
Beto’s Coffee Company launched in 2014 and has expanded every year since. In 2015, One Collective invested $39,000 into the initiative and since that investment the business has generated over $250,000 in global revenue, sustaining 5 national jobs on average, and providing for the local economy throughout the supply chain. In 2016, a Kickstarter campaign raised just over $30,000 in pre-sale revenue for the business, and also gained the initiative national-level acclaim in Nicaragua, becoming a source of inspiration for artisan entrepreneurs as well as young people from Masatepe who finally saw something exciting “launch” in their own backyard.
