Catalytic Capital in East London

Five years after initial funding, a single Visible Fund investment is still creating jobs, partners, and now new business owners in South Africa.

Around the start of the pandemic, One Collective's Visible Fund invested roughly $55,000 in a youth-run recycling business in the townships outside East London, South Africa. The business earned a Mercedes-Benz grant, which in turn opened the door to a second corporate partner - and this year, in a settlement where none of the young women on the team had ever held a job, the first of them is registering a business of her own.

We sat down with Scott Worley, our Catalyst in East London, South Africa, to hear how it happened.
